About Our Pro Bono Program

As a Deaf-owned business, we understand that communication access shouldn’t depend on financial circumstances. That’s why we are developing a pro bono program to provide interpreting services for deaf and hard of hearing individuals who need an interpreter but have no legal recourse to require an organization to provide one.

This program will be designed for personal situations where the individual would otherwise have to pay out of pocket or go without an interpreter—not for situations where an organization is legally required to provide accommodation.

Program in Development

This pro bono program is currently being developed and is not yet accepting requests. We are finalizing our eligibility criteria, application process, and interpreter availability. Please check back later or contact us to be notified when the program launches.

Planned Eligibility Criteria

  • Requester must be a deaf or hard of hearing individual (not an organization)
  • The situation must be one where no organization is legally obligated to provide interpreting (e.g., ADA, Section 504, etc.)
  • The appointment or event must be a personal matter, not business or employment-related
  • Financial hardship must be demonstrated
  • Request must be submitted with adequate advance notice
  • Limited to our local service area (MD/DC/VA)

What Will Qualify?

Understanding what our pro bono program will and won’t cover once launched.

Expected to Qualify

  • Personal legal consultation (attorney meeting where you’re paying)
  • Private family events (wedding where you’re a guest)
  • Personal appointments at businesses with no legal obligation
  • Community events hosted by small organizations exempt from ADA
  • Religious services at small houses of worship

Will Not Qualify

  • Medical appointments (providers are legally required to provide)
  • Employment situations (employers must provide accommodation)
  • Education settings (schools must provide under law)
  • Government services (required under ADA/Section 504)
  • Large businesses or organizations covered by ADA
